Each year the Parent and Family Resource Centre host a Transition Expo in association with Ministry of Social Development.  This Expo explores the progression from school to community life and is free to attend.  When an ORS funded student leaves school the funding becomes “transition” funding and is administered by Ministry of Social Development (instead of Ministry of Education when the student is at school).  In the last few years at school the student, their family, caregivers and school staff should begin thinking about where the young person will go once they leave school.  There are a range of Vocational Service Providers (Day Programmes) available to ORS funded students but access is facilitated by a Transition agency.  This process is best undertaken over a one or two year period so we encourage students aged 14-21yrs (and their family) to attend this Expo.
